2012 SUMMER SCHOOL Colleen Weste specialises in wearable silk art and is an experienced teacher. Come & enjoy the camaraderie of other artists in the lovely bush studio.(only 40mins from city) Dupont Dyes, silks and all silk painting supplies available. Cost; $60 per day. Mandala $40. You may choose to take one or more classes. Bring your own fabrics or buy at cost. Request price list. Bookings: Deposit required $20. 10% discount for more than one class.
DAY 1 Wednesday, January 18
	The Art of Silk Painting . . . . . . . . . . .10:00 - 3:00 Explore the beauty of dyes flowing into silk. Colleen will guide you through each step using different techniques for line and texture. You should complete 2 or 3 pieces of your choice. Suitable for all levels. Materials $20 (silk and dyes). Lunch provided

Day 2 Thursday, January 19
	Mandalas on Silk . . . . . . . . . . .10:00 - 1:00 The Mandala (sacred circle) has been used from ancient times to the present in spiritual traditions worldwide. Mandala painting helps manifest creative energy while reconnecting us to our spiritual self. You will begin with meditation and quiet music, then be given a circle drawn on silk to paint in which patterns and symbols emerge from your intuitive self rather than the intellect. It’s relaxing and fun. Materials $10 (silk and dyes).
Day 3 Friday, January 20
	Shibori Dyeing . . . . . . . . . . .10:00 - 3:00 Explore Ito Ito Shibori; shimmering colours on silk to give pattern and memory on cloth. We manipulate 3D surface techniques using Shibori processes of pleating, wrapping, binding and stitching suitable for a garment. Experience the magic of Indigo as well as multi colour dyes. Materials $10 (dyes, chemicals).
Day 4 Monday, January 23
	Black / Discharge / Print / Stitch . . . . . . . . . . .10:00 - 3:00 Learn about discharge, the chemical removal of colour from black fabrics. Explore shape resists, then create patterns with printing and see how stitch combines as a drawing tool. You will complete several samples on different fabrics. Materials $20 or byo fabrics.
Day 5 Tuesday, January 24
	Felting . . . . . . . . . . .10:00 - 3:00 Felt is a popular medium. In this workshop we explore Colleen’s method of nuno felting for pattern and texture. We create surface variations using fabrics, silk, beads or fine felts. You may make a large scarf or sleeveless vest. Chiffon silk $8 per metre. Felt kit supplied $10 or BYO

Create a large fine textured shawl nuno felting onto silk fabric with merino fleece and silk fibres, creating texture with wool and beads, Some shibori resist techniques will be explored in the dyeing process.
